Moosehead Lake
Forty miles long by approximately 20 miles wide, Moosehead Lake is the largest single body of fresh water in New England. Offering over 400 miles of shoreline, this majestic lake supports magnificent wildlife. Its home to loons, an array of waterfowl and songbirds, hawks, and bald eagles, moose, deer, otter, beaver and many other species. Mount Kineo, located about a mile across from Moosehead Lake from Rockwood, towers 800 feet above the water. Rich in history and folklore, Kineo is a great day-trip for many Cozy Moose guests. A ferry provides transportation to the mountain, where you can enjoy hiking or play a round of golf on a scenic course.
Mt. Katahdin and Nearby Parks
Mt. Katahdin rises over 5200 ft in Baxter State Park. The mountain is the northern terminus of the Appalachian Trail (which passes close to Greenville), and offers spectacular views, numerous hiking trails and adventure travel. Baxter State Park's beauty is a total escape for nature lovers, hikers, mountain climbers, photographers, bird watchers, geologists, wildlife enthusiasts. Many of our guests plan a day trip to Baxter State Park, whose borders contain 46 mountain peaks and ridges, and 175 miles of trails. Wildlife and birds thrive amongst the variety of orchids, ferns, and plant life throughout the park. Closer to home, Lily Bay State Park near Greenville offers a variety of excellent hiking trails for you to explore.
Greenville Attractions
Nearby Greenville is the gateway to the entire Moosehead Lake region and the North Woods. The town of Greenville has something for everyone, including local crafts, antiques, museums, and dining experiences. At the Moosehead Historical Society and the Moosehead Marine Museum, youll learn about the regions unique natural and cultural heritage. The Historical Society holds Maines second-largest collection of Native American artifacts. At the Marine Museum, you can enjoy learning about how Moosehead Lake has shaped the history of our region, then experience some of that history by taking a cruise on the restored steamer Katahdin.
For dining, Greenville offers 15 restaurants that are open for either breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you choose to relax and eat in, you can shop at one of the Greenvilles grocery stores and prepare your meals using our fully equipped kitchens, outside gas grills and picnic tables.(If you don't want to cook, The Cozy Moose has a personal chef available. For an additional charge, she will prepare customized menus for your stay, do the shopping, cooking, cleaning, and even package your meals for you to enjoy at your leisure.)

Throughout the year, vacationing in the Moosehead Lake region provides an abundance of recreational activities, including fishing, boating, kayaking and canoeing, moose safari cruises, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, hiking, swimming, golfing, horseback riding, and float-plane tours. There are scenic hiking trails and waterfalls nearby.
In the spring, wildflowers emerge from the ground, a variety of birds return to our area, and fishing for salmon and trout lures many to our lake and streams.

For wintertime fun, we provide on-site snowmobile rentals (plus direct access from your Cozy Moose cabin to the extensive Moosehead Lake snowmobile trail), ice fishing, snowshoeing and Nordic skiing. Plus, for downhill skiing, the slopes of Big Squaw Mountain are just 8 miles away!
