Foodie Moosehead Lake News

Fresh corn is available in town across from the school. Best corn I have had in Moosehead Lake area in a long time. Blueberries are in and so are the wild blackberries. The produce farmers market is set up on Saturdays now in the downtown and fresh organic produce is plentiful. Everything looked so good and the selection was great. A must stop by when you come to Moosehead Lake.

Enjoying watching the birds early in the morning. Regular visits by Hairy Woodpeckers, Red Breasted Nuthatches, occasional Gold Finches and Purple Finches. So fun to watch the families. At the cabins on Moosehead Lake, the Loons have been busy raising their chick. Pileated woodpeckers, hummingbirds, and other birds seen on a regular basis.

Moose tour this week, very happy guests. Last two tours saw 5 moose each time. Photographers on the tour were able to tote all their gear and get some up close shots.

Garden blooms are plentiful. The Hollyhocks are almost 12 feet tall, Sunflowers, and Wild Asters, Black Eyed Susans, Pearly Whites, Cow Vetch, fields of yellow Golden Rod, and fields of Queen Annes Lace are beautiful.

Mushrooms are popping up everywhere. On a short walk, I noticed about 10 different varieties and saw a wood frog. The bats have returned in the evenings skillfully flying about for their food. A welcome return as it has been several years since I have seen them. Also, a friend at AMC, said she noticed first bats this year in awhile.

We encourage you to get out and discover what Moosehead Lake is all about. Come on up for a visit.
