Ice Racing on Moosehead Lake, Jan-Mar
December Vacation Week: Squaw Mountain Ski Resort, family ski resort, rentals, and lessons. Beautiful views of Moosehead Lake.
Mid January – March (Saturdays): West Cove Ice Racing on Moosehead Lake. Races on in the West Cove start at noon once ice is deemed safe.
Mid January thru First Week in March: Most predictable time to plan a snowmobile vacation in Maine. Rentals and private guided snowmobile tours available depart from town or from your cabin.
January-Mid March: Snowmobile Radar Runs sponsered by local clubs and businesses on Moosehead Lake
January – March: Squaw Mountain Ski Resort- downhill skiing, Thurs afternoons, Friday – Sunday until 4pm. Open vacation weeks and special events planned
Second last Saturday in January: Moosehead Riders annual B-52 Memorial Snowmobile Ride to B-52 Bomber that crashed in Elephant Mountain
Last Weekend in January: Annual Moosehead Lake Ice Fishing Derby – Cash Prizes for biggest Togue. Great Ice Fishing and Ice Shack rental on Moosehead Lake at The Cozy Moose Waterfront.
February 6, 2016 Sno Fest Events: Kicks off with Moosehead Lake Wilderness Sled Dog Race Moosehead Lake Sled Dog Race -Free to public, this Moosehead event offers viewing for spectators and organized events throughout the day in Greenville.
February – Friday before Presidents Day: Moosehead Lake, Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club House Chili / Chowder Fest in Greenville, Maine Snow Fest week event.
February Sunday before Presidents Day- Moosehead Lake Chocolate Festival- Delightful chocolate samples to choose from with to go containers. Moosehead Lake fundraiser, Chinese Auction and 50/50 raffle. Best time to arrive is 1pm
February 15: Moosehead Lake opens Salmon Ice Fishing

February Presidents Day Week: Annual Moosehead Riders Winter Snowfest on Moosehead Lake. Fun filled snowmobile events, radar runs, activities for the entire family, snowmobile parade, evening bonfire and fireworks – 2/21/15 at 6pm West Cove Moosehead Lake. Squaw Mountain Ski Resort open everyday during vacation week.
February: Typically Saturday after Presidents Day – Monson Snow Roller Day- Starts 6am-4pm Ongoing events throughout the day, Fishing Derby on Lake Hebron, snow sculpture contest, pancake breakfast, sled races, games, poker runs, lunch, and kids open gym

March: First Week in March TBA: Annual Moosehead Motorsports in Greenville Maine – Moosehead Lake to Eagle Lake Snowmobile Train Ride
March: TBA from 10am – 2pm Moosehead Riders Snowmobile Club Cookout. Enjoy snowmobiling in Maine with The Moosehead Riders. Join us for fun, cookout and games, snowmobiling fun and excellent food.
March TBA: Maine 100 USCC – United States Cross Country Snowmobile Race East (USCC East): Race schedule to be annouced – Focus for common rider to test his skills on cross country trails.
March 16 – May 22: Quite Season Rates offered at The Cozy Moose Cabins
March Maine Event – Typically second last sunday or last Sunday in March 2016 : Maine Maple Syrup Sunday. There are two local sugar houses that open to the public offering free tours, tastes of Maine Maple Syrup. Appropriate for all ages.
Maine Birding – Nature Walks: Great Animal Tracking – Enjoy spring as the snow melts and wildlife come out of the woods. Sweet sounds of singing birds fill the air and look for antler sheds.
Early Spring: Fiddlehead Season in Moosehead Lake Area. Ostrich Fiddleheads is a Maine delicacy – Get them when you can a short 2 week season.
Maine Moose and deer come out of the woods. Maine Wildlife sightings are numerous in early spring as they can easily be seen by vehicle or in the woods.
April 1: Maine Fishing Open Water Season Begins in area ponds.
April 1: Application Deadline for Maine Moose Hunting permit. Applications available from Dept. of Fisheries and Wildlife (207) 287-8000
May: Jeep Tours – Vehicle 4×4 tours – Adventure Wildlife Tours start and are offered throughout the season thru October.
Last Weekend April Annual Piscataquis River Canoe Race. This 8 mile run starts in Guilford and ends in Dover/Foxcroft. Over 150 racers are expected to compete in 21 racing and recreational classes for canoes and kayaks. This is an American Canoe Association Event. For more information contact SPCC at 207.564.7533.
Mid-May- Mid Oct: Moose safaris begin throughout the Moosehead Lake Region. Private guided tours available. This is truly a great way to observe and learn about Maine’s majestic moose. Contact us for private guided tours departing from our cabins.
May 15 – June 30: Moosehead Getaway Safari Tour Package -Celebrate Moosemania with private guided moose safari Vehicle tour into moose country.

May 15 – June 30: Moosehead Getaway Safari Tours -Celebrate Moosemania with a private guided moose safari by 4×4 vehicle Jeep tour into moose country.
June 2016 Celebration featuring our #1 resident The Moose. Craft fair, Maine events, geocaching scavenger hunt, activities, , kids fun day with prizes and treats. Greenville Maine town wide garage sale.
Other events include Moose River canoe race, Annual Moose photo contest and more.
Moosemania 2016: TBA Natural Resource Education Center- Moosetails with Maine moose biologist, Moose calling, Moose photos, and Moose hors d;oeuvres will be served.
Mid May: Spring Birding and Foraging Trip- Guided Bird Tours, Maine Birding trip identifing birds of Moosehead and thier calls. Bird sit and easy walk session on wildlife plants foraging
May 31: Memorial Day Parade and Ceremonies, Greenville and other locations.

Mid-June: Strawberry season is here! Berry-picking farms open to the public. Stutzman’s Farms which is one of my favorites is about a 35 minute drive from Greenville.
June 19-Sept 27: Moosehead Historical Society- Docent guided tours being Wednesday-Friday from 1pm-4pm.
June 27 to Oct 15th: Katahdin Sightseeing Cruises on Moosehead Lake – Tues – Sat
June TBA : Bike and Boat annual Moosehead Lake event – bikers travel 19.5 miles to Rockwood and return on Moosehead Lake aboard the Katahdin Steamship. Family and team members. Fund raiser for CA Dean Hospita.
July Thursday Evenings: Music in The Gazebo 7pm- The first in a series of concerts in downtown Greenville sponsored by The Town at 7pm throughout the summer. Entertainment TBA. Bring your lawn chairs, or a blanket and enjoy!
July 3-5: Worlds Largest Book Sale 10am-3pm, Masonic Hall
July 4: Town of Greenville’s Fourth of July Celebration- Features special events, craft fair at 9am, games at 10am, parade at 1pm and much more. Fireworks display over Moosehead Lake. A great time to be in town.

July TBA: Ready Workers Open House Coffee- Food and craft tables in Community House from 9am to 2pm CA Dean Celebrity Benefit Bike Ride, BBQ, and Auction at Greenville High School 9:30am to mid afternoon Greenville Recreation Dept. activities TBA. Last year a Basketball Tournament was held at outdoor basketball court at the Greenville School 9am-12pm. Advance registration required.
July – Mid August: Moosehead Lake Wednesday Moosehead Lake Hikes, Meet at the NREC office in Greenville, destinations vary based on weather. Moosehead Lake Hiking destinations: Eagle Rock, Wilson Falls, Gulf Hagus, Katahdin Iron Works, Big Moose, Little Moose, Number Four Mt., White Cap Mt., Borestone Mountain, and more.
July 9 – Mid August: Moosehead Lake Youth Days – Maine Woods Explorers, Programs for the day, meeting at 8:30am. Pre-registration required at NREC center, call or email office for forms. Offering Canoe, Kayak, Map and Compass, Foraging, Maine Authors and Artists, Rockets, Astronomy, Silverculture, Geology, Fishing and More. Moosehead Lake Day camp programs for all ages.
July: Slide Show on Fishing and Wildlife in Moosehead Region, presented by Dan Legere, Nickerson Elementary School, Greenville.
July First Week: Vintage and Classic Boat Show- Held by the Moosehead Lake Yacht Club, at the Moosehead Marina in Rockwood. Features unique runabouts from the New England Chapter of Vintage and Classic Boat Club, For more information contact Moosehead Marine Museum.

July 15 – 7/18 : Maine Event – Moosehead Lake – Thoreau – Wabanaki Fesitval – Cultural awareness of rich Indian History of Moosehead Lake Region at The Moosehead Historical Society Museum.
July Last Weekend: Abbotts Anniversary Celebration, Featuring a parade, street dance, craft fair, children’s games, woodsman competition, BBQ, Blacksmithing and candlemaking competition.
July 3rd weekend: Thoreau – Wabanaki Festival Downtown Greenville cultural awareness of rich Indian History of Moosehead Lake .

August 2nd Week: Skowhegan State Fair – Oldest continuous running fair in US. Midway rides, Exposition Shows, Harness Racing, and Concerts. This is one of our favorites!

August : Ready Workers Lumberjack Breakfast- Community House 7am to 9am.
August : 8/7 and 8/8 2nd Weekend- Forest Heritage Days. A great educational event about foresting the Maine North Woods. Woods tours, educational exhibits, craft fair, and logging competition. Bus tour to various spots throughout the Moosehead Lake woods to present aspects of northern forest management, recreational, wildlife, and water resources. Lunch will be provided.

August TBA : Summer Sky, 8pm, held at the Greenville School All Purpose Room, Junction and sponsored by The Natural Resource Education Center. Astronomer Dr. John Hermann will speak about the summer sky, complete with telescopes. Fun and educational.
August : Piscataquis Valley Fair, Dover-Foxcroft, Old fashioned agricultural fair with midway, horse pulling, livestock and more.

September Weekend after Labor Day: International Seaplane Fly-In Weekend 9/11 – 9/13 – This aviation event offers entertainment, presentations, contests, and awards dinner. A very popular event.

Mid September to Mid October: Scenic Fall Foliage — Attention leaf-peepers Come see the best fall foliage displays. Vivid blue Moosehead Lake against the array of fall colors and green pines is hard to beat.

December TBA: Deck the Halls Holidays at Moosehead. family event includes outdoor activities for children, holiday Bazaar, Street Festival, petting zoo, live music, holiday treats and visit by Santa Claus, Horse drawn wagon rides, crafts, and shopping specials. End the evening with a christmas tree lighting and a sock hop at the school gym. Come to our home for the holidays. .
